AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: GIMME SOME SUGAR

RATED IT

Lucy Bowman would never have guessed that her best friend, Duffy McCready (of McCready’s Bait Shop & Funeral Home) has been in love with her since they were kids. Fear of rejection and his own romantic complications prevented Duffy from confessing his true feelings in high school, so he stood by and watched her wed Wayne Bowman right after high school. Wayne had always been a cheapskate, so it comes as no surprise when he suffers a fatal accident while fixing his own truck.

Even as her family and friends invade Lucy’s life and insist that the new widow is too fragile to do much beyond weeping, Lucy is ashamed to admit that life without Wayne is easier, less complicated. After all, no one knew what a relentless, soul-grinding trudge marriage to Wayne had been. Only Duffy can tell she’s hiding something.

In need of a fresh start, Lucy asks Duffy to put his cabinet-building skills to use, transforming the town's meat shop into a bake shop. As the bakery takes shape, Lucy and Duffy discover the spark that pulled them together so many years ago. Could this finally be the second chance he’s always hoped for?

Gimme Some Sugar paints a comfortable picture of a small town where every one knows every one and family rivalries still exist. After losing her husband, Lucy and her son Sam move back to Lucy's home town, Lake Sackett, Georgia. All Lucy wants is a safe place to raise her son and live her dream of owning her own bakery. Now, if the town's folk would just mind their business, lol.

Let me start off by saying I have not read the first two books of this series. When Lucy moves back home, she is immediately comforted by the familiarity of where she grew up. Finding her footing as a single parent has been a challenge for Lucy. This sweet story is all about Lucy finding true love.

The characters depicted in the story are what make this story fun. The town is just the right balance of fun, not too silly but not all serious either. Duffy, Lucy's bff growing up, and his mother Dawn are the bright spot in Lucy's day. Evie and Melody, the evil in-laws, and Lana, Duffy's ex-wife, are the perfect people you love to hate. While Lucy works on getting her bakery open and discovering her true feelings about her failed marriage with Wayne and her true love feelings for Duffy, the evil-doers are hard at work attempting to destroy both Lucy's business and her romance with Duffy. I truly enjoyed getting to know Lucy and was instantly drawn into the world.

by Tia Silverthorne Bach

There isn’t another way; not now. The others are coming. I can’t let them have you…

Seventeen-year-old Reagan has a problem: She can’t remember what happened the night her brother was taken. Now, the dreams haunting her from the incident are becoming more intense by the day. All the while, the lines between what’s real and what’s a product of her paranormal-obsessed mind are becoming blurred.

Is she losing her mind or has she just stepped into a world she thought only existed in books?

Caught in a web of worried parents, competing boys, Wiccan relatives, protective amulets, and psychiatrist babble, Reagan must determine the truth before it’s too late.

Reagan thought one night changed her life forever, but her fate was written long ago.

Merging creature and white blood,
One of flame, one of night,
At eighteen years it will commence,
Spiritual warrior and power,
Will bring an end to the lawless ones.

A war looms: One that pits brother against brother for werewolf supremacy. Angels and demons will each have a say before a victor is chosen.

With her eighteenth birthday only six months away, time is running out. Reagan must find a way to harness the two powerful, ancient bloodlines coursing through her: Werewolf and Wiccan. Then, she has to figure out her role in the century-old prophecy foretold by her great-grandmother.

However, if Reagan can’t save her family from her most vicious rival, Rafe, the forces of Hell will be unleashed and the war will be over before it starts.
