Paige Landry
I finally made it. I graduated nursing school, and I found the perfect job. Things were great until a tornado blew through the emergency room, turning my life upside down. I don’t know if I can ever go back to the way things were before. Tornado survivors have a choice to rebuild, or pack up and move away. I’m twenty-two, and I know that one day I want the American dream: a husband, 2.5 kids and a white picket fence. But that’s the thing with rebuilding.

What happens when the next tornado hits? Will I be blown away again?

DH Rhoads
Adrenaline. It’s fueled me since I was thirteen. It’s what I discovered while I chased tornadoes across Oklahoma. It’s what I craved on combat missions in helicopters in Afghanistan. It’s what I lived for, until one day when everything changed. Now, adrenaline is my drug. It numbs me when the memories become too much to bear. It reminds me that I don’t deserve a wife, 2.5 kids and a white picket fence. I’ve seen what tornadoes do to white picket fences. It’s ugly.

I’m the tornado. I’ve already destroyed one family. Don’t chase me.

BOOK REVIEW: SHADOW BOUND

Patrol Log:  11908272018

**Book provided by the author for an honest review**

Rated it

Two women. Two lives. One goal—survive.

Aspen and Emma live on the cusp of two worlds. One side is a soul-sucking drag filled with micro-managing bosses and insomnia. On the other, life unfolds on a razor's edge as they discover they are more than what they seem, marked by the Fae and bound to the Shadows.

Abducted to the Shadows and turned into unwilling pawns of the Fae’s creation, they are forced to participate in the Wild Hunt. In this deadly world, few can be trusted, including charismatic Liam, Prince of the Shadows and Gerard, the mysterious Wild Hunt trainer, who claim they want to end it. Forced to trust the enemy, they must choose: work together and possibly end the Hunt forever—or each play her own game of survival and win at all costs.

Shadow Bound is an amazing new series filled with drama, and danger...as well as the potential for a romance ;) When Emma and Aspen are abducted and awake in a strange new world, their new life threatening journey begins. In the Shadows is where these two women will learn their fate. Will they rise to the challenge, and kick fates ass, or will they crumble and die?

The story behind Shadow Bound is a world of fae that live in a cloaked society on earth. Some live among us, and some are bound to the Shadows. When fae dilute their blood line with humans, those half-breeds are considered lesser fae and are outcasts. Most if not all do not know their true heritage but are marked with what they believe as a birth mark. The humanettes, as they are referred to, all have magical properties, but some are more pronounced than others. The in depth portrayal of the fae is quiet intriguing, and unique for this reader. The fae come in many forms, as we find out during Emma and Aspen's ordeal. And the true nature of their abduction was for the two women to fight to the death in a yearly ritual called the Wild Hunt.

Emma and Aspen, strangers to each other, share a unique attribute, they are both half fae. The magic from their marks revealed their fae strength which is why they were chosen for the Wild Hunt. Over the next few weeks, they are trained for combat, all while coming to terms with what they really are. The transformation, and their abilities is phenomenal! Each woman possessing a strength different from the other, giving the reader an exciting anticipation for the battle! Emma was captured by Liam's people, and Liam is the nephew to the evil Ansel, who chose Aspen. The two are at odds, to say the least, and Liam is desperate to win the hunt and end the hunt once and for all. Ansel and Liam's history is very painful and treasonous, not only between them but to the fae kind. The constant battle between good and evil will never end until Liam finds out how to permanently stop Ansel. The entire story from beginning to end was captivating. I rooted for Emma, and empathized with Aspen through and through. I believe these two women will take everyone by surprise and bring Ansel down for good!

If you want a story that will just tug at your heart strings, and give you an amazing ride, then this is the book for you! Ansel will forever regret looking down on a humanette.

BOOK REVIEW: WISCONSIN VAMP

Patrol Log:  11707232018

Rated it

Some vampires are destined for greatness. He's not one of them.

When truckstop diner cook and mediocre bowler Herb Knudsen becomes a vampire, his once simple life gets a bit more complicated.

Herb’s not even sure how it happened. He wasn’t bitten by a vampire, which means there’s no one around to help him learn the ropes. With no one to guide him, Herb fumbles into his newfound abilities, courting disaster with every step.

Despite learning each new lesson the hard way, being a vampire isn’t all bad. He’s stronger, a little sexier, and a heck of a lot better at bowling. Even Lois, the girl of his dreams, is starting to notice him. But he can’t drink beer, the bodies are piling up, and his best friend Dallas isn’t just getting suspicious – he’s getting jealous.

When Lois is caught in the middle of the two friends' escalating rivalry, keeping his dark secret becomes the least of Herb's concerns.

Booze, bowling, bake sales, bar fights, babes, blood and karaoke... Who would have thought that being undead would make life so exciting?

Trappersville, WI is a small town filled with people that have little to do but bowl, drink, and fish, so when Herbert Knudsen, the towns loser suddenly becomes good at bowling, and starts actually looking good, something ain't right. Tune in for when socially awkward meets suave and sophisticated.

For a small town like Trappersville, Herb is a mere speck in a tiny pond. But when luck strikes Herb, he goes from being invisible to the Bay City Bowlers Champion! Herb was accidentally made a vampire. Why Herb? Well, why not! Herb lives a simple life as a fry cook at Robbie's Diner, has a best friend in Dallas who is a ladies man, and is in love with Lois, the waitress who doesn't even know Herb exists. Herb always lived in the shadow of his best friend Dallas, until he began his transformation into a vampire. He lost the belly fat, became stronger, and faster, in turn grew his self confidence ten fold. Herb seems like the underdog that deserves to win the lottery, sort of guy. He has always been nice and gentle unlike his counterpart Dallas, whom always went home with the girl. Dallas was full of himself to say the least. In times, it almost appears that Dallas is purely friends with Herb to make himself feel more sexy or likeable perhaps? Cause frankly the douche is always making fun of Herb, little jabs to his self confidence, appearance, lack of experience with the ladies. I really fucking despise this guy, so when Herb grows out of his awkwardness, I am rooting for Dallas to fall flat on his ass!

The story was entertaining to say the least. I can't say I've ever read a paranormal book that entails the main character being turned via mosquito, lol. I like the realism the town and characters have vs your typical PNR book. This stories world is not built with layers of the underworld, nor is it seeking a champion, it's everyday life and people with a twist. It's a town and people that we all can relate to. Not to copy what other reviewers have said already, but how can I not? Herb is the best unlikely vampire hero you'll ever meet! Herb has real anxiety, but now with his vampiric abilities he finally has the grace and strength to face his life long fears. I really enjoyed reading Wisconsin Vamp, and I can't wait to continue on with the series!

GIVEAWAY: WIN 3 SIGNED COPIES BY M.M. KOENIG!

Patrol Log:  11606272018

GIVEAWAY FOR 3 SIGNED COPIES
OF THE SECRETS AND LIES SERIES
BY M.M. KOENIG!

My introduction to Koenig was thrilling!  Meeting at the Twin Cities Author Event in the Mall of America, Koenig pulled me into her Secrets and Lies series with such enthusiasm, that I could not resist buying the whole set!  Each copy is signed, and just dying for a loving home.  Although parting with them will be difficult, being selfish is a crime, especially with books (in my opinion).  So without delay, here is a small bit about each book.  Following the author bio, you will find how to enter.  Good luck!

Complicated, Secrets and Lies Book 1

Mia Ryan has learned the hard way that her choices can have horrible consequences. Taking an offer that was supposed to get her life back on track was nothing but a ploy. To keep the ones she holds dear safe, she's forced to finish what she started, without any hope of finding out why she was targeted in the first place. Though Mia has Ethan by her side, she can't seem to believe in him, especially since most of his life remains a mystery.

Ethan Fitzgerald has done everything in his power to prove to Mia that she can trust him, but it never seems to be enough to convince her to drop the last wall around her heart. With deep and dark secrets lurking around every corner, he has his own plan to keep Mia from any danger, but it may just shatter their love forever.

There are so many questions – with even more shocking answers – and when Mia uncovers the truth, nothing will ever be the same...

Conflicted, Secrets and Lies Book 2

Mia Ryan was on the path to make all her dreams come true. Her life was everything she wanted it to be; until one fateful night changed everything – leaving her broken and without direction. Nearly a year later, she still has little faith in anyone or anything. Desperate to reclaim her life’s ambition, she takes an unexpected offer that promises to solve all her problems. But as Mia moves forward, she’s faced with obstacles she couldn’t have foreseen. The biggest of them lies within the mystery of Ethan Fitzgerald; a man who affects her like no other, but who she should avoid pursuing, at all costs.

On a mission himself, Ethan Fitzgerald didn’t care who he pissed off on his road to fulfill his mother’s dying wish. He relied on himself, and was closed off to the world around him – until Mia Ryan walked through his door. Normally one to avoid messy emotions, Ethan’s world is turned upside down by Mia, and he can’t seem to get enough of her.

There are lines you can cross that will change the course of your life forever …

Concealed, Secrets and Lies Book 3

Mia Ryan's past and present are about to collide in startling ways, leaving her to question everything she's ever known about herself.

After a shocking turn of events that revealed some mind-blowing secrets, Mia becomes more determined than ever to take back her life from the darkness that's consumed her. In her pursuit for answers, she quickly discovers that parts of her past, which have always been a mystery, might be the key to saving the ones she loves...and the man that stole her heart.

Ethan Fitzgerald knows that things are never what they seem. Taking down his father's empire wasn't supposed to be a challenge-that was before Mia Ryan waltzed through his door. Forever changed by a love that reignites his purpose in life, Ethan is willing to do whatever it takes to protect Mia, and his enemies know it.

In this edge of your seat finale of the Secrets and Lies series, the stakes are higher than they've ever been before. Can Mia and Ethan's relationship withstand the malicious forces threatening them, or is letting go the answer that saves them and the ones they love? Everything comes at a cost-and it might just be true love.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: HOW TO DATE YOUR DRAGON

Patrol Log:  11504042018

Audiobook Review On How To Date Your Dragon

Rated It

Jillian's first assignment for the League could be her last. Mystic Bayou is wary of outsiders, and she has difficulty getting locals to talk to her. And she can't get the gruff town sheriff, Bael Boone, off of her back or out of her mind. Bael is the finest male specimen she's seen in a long time, even though he might not be human. Soon their flirtation is hotter than a dragon's breath, which Bael just might turn out to be....

Mystic Bayou, LA is a special and unique town, one that the League of Interspecies Cooperation has its eye on. In an effort to uncover their secret for the blissful interspecies relations, the League sends in Jillian, one of their top recommended anthropologists to conduct a study on the residents. Jillian has worked her whole life for this opportunity and is elated about the new assignment, but will her research subjects be as enthusiastic about her as she is them? In an attempt to find Mystic Bayou's secrets, she uncovers more than what she bargained for! Will Jillian rise to the challenge, or will she run scared with her tail between her legs?

Doctor Jillian Ramsey arrives in Mystic Bayou with an open mind and almost a virgin like purity to her. She is smart and inquisitive, but when it comes to the social aspect of things, she is clueless. When she meets Mayor Zed and Sheriff Bael, she pretty much knows right off the bat how well her stay will be. The comedic circumstances, and interactions with others had me laughing right in Chapter One. The detailed descriptions of the smells, textures, and people came in just the right dose, as well as timing. Jillian does the best she can on such short notice, being as she was sent there last minute in place of Doctor Montez, her mentor and the head shit. But as Jillian begins her interviews with various town folk/shifters, she begins to show her true personality, which is quite annoying at times. She is very stubborn and wants to do everything herself, even though she has no idea how dangerous of a position she is in, and once she gets involved with the love interest, she pretty much blows off all the personal stuff he tells her. Now add a murder, then another, oh wait...one more. Instead of being concerned for her welfare, Jillian plugs away like that doesn't change shit, and gets angry with love interest when he wants to protect her! Fuck woman, you had your good points, now you're coming off like a douche! My perception of Jillian is not nice but her irritating self made the story what it is, so in my book it's all good. Now Bael, he is the love interest for Jillian. First off, he totally makes up for Jillian's sass, cause OMG! Bael is for real, sensitive, masculine, a lover and a fighter, and no shit sitting on a pile of lucky charms! Bael for sure has a brooding, tall, dark and handsome thing going on, but once Jillian gets in, he is all mushy inside, lol. I really loved Bael, all of him! And the town's people were so funny, and quirky, that they fit the bill for what this towns vibe was going for.

The story and plot was not to off the beaten path for the overall feel of the book. The plot has it's danger, but it wasn't to over the top, and fell right in line with what Jillian had uncovered. Jillian and the towns back story came into play throughout the book, which gave the story a nice depth to it that I was pleasantly surprised by. As far as happy endings, I was conflicted because Jillian pulled such an asshole move on Bael, that really pissed me off, but then had the outcome I wanted, with some reservations because Jillian was still being a tool! I almost feel like Jillian doesn't deserve Bael. Damn you Harper, I hate conflict! Ugh...that's all I'm saying, I'm done.

Narrator Review

Amanda Ronconi is one of my favorite narrators! She is totally awesome, and fabulous! I always enjoy her comedic timing, along with the right touch of snark to her tone, lol. Hands down 5 Fangs. Jonathan Davis also narrated in Bael's POV parts of the book. I don't believe I have ever listened to anything by him before. I would have to double check that, but doesn't ring a bell. He did well. His take on the story was not as performance driven as Amanda's, more just like reading, but hey it didn't suck so there ya go. I can always appreciate a smooth voice, and excellent audio. Jonathan was cool, and I give him 3 Fangs.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: THE DISPATCHER

Patrol Log:  11403302018

Audiobook Review On The Dispatcher

Rated it

One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know. But it changes everything: war, crime, daily life.
Tony Valdez is a Dispatcher - a licensed, bonded professional whose job is to humanely dispatch those whose circumstances put them in death's crosshairs, so they can have a second chance to avoid the reaper. But when a fellow Dispatcher and former friend is apparently kidnapped, Tony learns that there are some things that are worse than death and that some people are ready to do almost anything to avenge a supposed wrong.
It's a race against time for Valdez to find his friend before it's too late...before not even a Dispatcher can save him.

The Dispatcher is a great futuristic story, in a world where people never really die. Dispatcher Tony Valdez reluctantly takes a journey into the underground world of Dispatcher's along with Detective Langdon in order to find his fellow Dispatcher Jimmy Albert. Will they find Billy dead or alive? Will Tony survive the hunt?

The concept of this story reminds me of a the Twilight Zone. The world is just so odd, and really screws with your mind. Dispatcher's are a part of a government run program, like part of the police department. They wield an applicator that when used on someone who has just died, it brings them back to life. The success rate is pretty high, but there are times when it doesn't work and the person is really dead. There are rules that the Dispatcher's have to abide by, so when they take side jobs, (which is legal for them to do) the gray area of the rules are pushed to the limits.

Tony is a straight shooter when it comes to his work. He has in the past worked private gigs, but when the waters started getting muddy, he left. But not before introducing Billy to all the extra money he could earn. Turns out Billy was more about the money than his own morals, and that is what got him into trouble. While investigating Billy's disappearance, Langdon lands on Valdez's front door. They use to be partners, and Langdon wants to know everything Valdez knows. Langdon is a sneaking bitch though and basically blackmails Valdez into helping her with the investigation. Well blackmail may be the wrong term, but she forces his hand. The investigation takes Valdez way beyond his comfort zone, and he uncovers just how seedy the side jobs can be. It was really fascinating how people managed to work around the rules to their benefit, and profit. I enjoyed the hunt as much as I enjoyed the concept of the story, which led me to loving the character Valdez. Although he was on the up and up, he knew how to kick ass too!

Narrator Review

Zachary Quinto did a fine job with his narration. His tone was the perfect blend of masculine and soothing, with a touch of sensitivity when called for. He never once took me out of the story, and the sound quality was excellent. Great job Zachary! ~ 4 Fangs ~
