BLOG TOUR & GIVEAWAY: DAX

Patrol Log:  10011212017

BLOG TOUR FOR DAX, (BAD BOYS OF WILLOW VALLEY)

Title: Dax (Bad Boys of Willow Valley)
Author: Shannyn Leah
Genre: Contemporary Small Town Romance

About Dax: Dax is the first book in Willow Valley’s Bad Boy stand-alone series. These hot contemporary romance books feature alpha males heroes and strong, independent women.

Fall in love with Dax Coyln, a volunteer firefighter and hard ass mechanic for his restoration business. He’s strong, solid, independent, until tragedy strikes that could tear him to the ground.

It’s hard to resist a Good Man who’s a Bad Boy

Dax Colyn is one of the bad boys of Willow Valley. A fearless volunteer firefighter and hard ass mechanic, he makes all the woman swoon and he likes it that way. He keeps people at a distance since his mother died. He doesn’t want to let anyone in, much less a woman he knows he could fall in love with
Ava Anderson keeps people away, too. Haunted by her tortured past and constantly fearful of the future, it’s only her daughter Olivia and Dax’s dad Rowdy that she’s let in.
But when tragedy strikes, it pushes Dax and Ava together, forcing them both to let go of their fears. They soon learn how hard it is to keep pretending and how easy it is to let others in. Especially when those people are family.

BONUS EXCERPT :
“Dax?” She’d moved directly beside him and he felt her warmth radiate near his arm. “Rowdy says you haven’t gone back to the hospital for a follow up on your shoulder.”
She set the princess-patterned bag on his desk before he could reply, not that he needed to answer her. They both knew he hadn’t gone back to see the doctor. He hated hospitals.
A couple weeks back on their way back to the station after dousing a farm fire, the new guy had driven off the road and flipped the fire truck on its side, sending all five of the men to the hospital. Had the ambulance driver not given him a choice, he wouldn’t have gone in the first place.
Big deal. Firefighters got muscle sprains all the time. Although his shoulder was being a pain and not healing. He should have gone for the follow up, but he could scrounge up a thousand excuses to hold it off, too.
Ava unzipped Olivia’s knapsack and pulled out a container of gel. “Let me see your shoulder.” Her teacher’s tone again. Damn woman.
“Ava—”
“I didn’t ask. Take off your shirt, Dax.”
He leaned back in his chair to get a better look at her. He put on his famously seductive grin and tapered his eyes. “I’ve been trying to get you out of your shirt for years and you think you can come into my office and, after one demand, think I’m going to just strip for you? Do you think I’m that easy?”
Her lips curved upwards. “You are that easy.”
“Take yours off,” he retorted.
Her jaw tightened, as did the grip on the jar in her hands. Humor swept away, her eyes didn’t waver from his, and he watched desire heat up in them. The attraction between them resonated around the four walls of his office and he knew sex with her would be mind-blowing. Except, he’d never sleep with her. He couldn’t. As much as he teased and flirted, at the end of the day, they didn’t mix. Hot and cold. Water and fire. Besides, his dad would whoop him good and serve him up for dinner if it ever went that far.
Ava’s fingers grasped the edge of her blue and white plaid blouse and hiked the material high enough to see her naval.
Goddamit. They were in his office and the wall overlooking the shop was encased with windows.
He caught her wrist, conflicted with wanting more, all of her and not wanting any of her at all.
“Alright,” he growled, pulling her shirt back down over her denim shorts.
He stood up, ignoring what looked a hell of a lot like hurt in her eyes and yanked his own black T-shirt over his head. He balled it up, frustration invading his hands and tossed it onto his desk.
“If I’d known it was that easy to get your shirt off, I would have flashed my sprained shoulder a helluva long time ago.”
One thing was for certain, the teasing had to end. She’d never given an inch and today she’d have given a whole damn foot.

BOOK REVIEW: THE 4TH MONKEY

Patrol Log:  9911102017

Book Review On The 4th Monkey

A Mystery/Thriller Novel

**Advanced Readers Copy provided by the author for an honest review**

Rated it

Seven meets The Silence of the Lambs in this dark and twisting novel from the author Jeffery Deaver called, "A talented writer with a delightfully devious mind."

For over five years, the Four Monkey Killer has terrorized the resident so f Chicago.  When his body is found, the police quickly realize he was on his way to deliver one final message, one which proves he has taken another victim who may still be alive.

Chicago's finest Detective's Nash and Porter have been on the hunt for years for the Four Monkey Killer, (4MK) and finally have a lead.  When a man is killed and holds in his possessions an ear and a diary, the two detectives think this is finally the end to his terror...until they read the diary.  Can they put this case to rest before more die?

This thrilling new series begins in the windy city of Chicago.  For those of you whom never been to Minnesota, we are giving them a run for their money on "wind", lol.  The case of the 4MK killer has had detectives Nash and Porter baffled as to his identity for years, until now. While they believe the case may be closed, they discover in the dead mans possession a box with a human ear, and a diary.  The 4MK's MO is to cut his victims ear off, amongst other things.  Well crap, this means his last victim is still alive and out there somewhere and now they have to find them before it's too late.  They believe the victim is a 15-year old girl named Emory.  She is the illegitimate daughter of filthy rich business man by the name of Talbot, who's gone missing.  Just when the detectives think they have the killer where they want him, he has managed to turn the table in a plot twist that will shock the shit out of you!

The 4MK killer's character was fascinating to say the least.  During the story, we are discovering his past along with Detective Porter while he reads his diary.  The story gives us the play by play of the killers parents, and their story.  While in between the investigation, the story switches to 4MK's tale.  I have to say that the diary entries were more intriguing to me than the present time with the detectives.  I was so enamored by his tale I fought with myself about skipping to the diary parts!  In the end, despite his parents shenanigans I was rooting for his father.  The loyalty, love and betrayal he faced was heart wrenching at times.Go figure, I root for the bad guys, haha.

In the present, the investigation was familiar like a CSI episode that I connected with for obvious reasons...however I never really bonded with the detectives until the end of the story, and more so with Porter than Nash.  During some point in the book I almost gave up on the police force until pieces of the puzzle started clicking into place.  And why is there always a Espinosa?  I mean damn, the television shows already have that character covered, lol.  Moving on, the setting and world building was very detailed and brought the story to life in my imagination, and I really love when a writer can pull that off.  And although I felt that the story came to a satisfying end for me, the author pulls a hat trick in the prologue!  Holy shit!  Yes I want to read more please!

So for those mystery thriller fans, I highly recommend you pick this book up and follow the author, cause book two I'm sure will kick some serious ass!

BOOK REVIEW: HER LAST DAY

Patrol Log:  9810252017

Book Review:  Her last day by T.R. Ragan

A Mystery/Thriller Novel

**Advanced Readers Copy provided by the author for an honest review**

Ten years ago, PI Jessie Cole and reporter Ben Morrison each suffered a tragedy that changed their lives—and now these two strangers are about to share a nightmare.

For Jessie, who makes her living finding missing persons, no case has consumed her more than the disappearance of her younger sister, Sophie. But left alone to raise Sophie’s daughter, she realizes that solving the case has become an unhealthy obsession.

Jessie Cole, a private investor in Sacramento, CA with a sad past. Driven by her missing sister, she seeks justice for the families in and around Sacramento.

Meanwhile, Sacramento is haunted by a serial killer named the “Heartless Killer” and his MO has everyone at risk. The heartless killer doesn't have a “type” he goes for and the police are at a loss as to when or where he will strike.

During an investigation of a missing teenager, Jessie is plagued by her sisters past once more from the likes of an amnesic newspaper reporter, is fighting a murder rap, and unbeknownst to her, stumbles on the case of a lifetime. Stick around to find out what this mystery thriller is all about!

Jessie Cole grew up with a loving family, mom, dad, and sister. Until her sister disappeared some ten years ago, then her world fell apart. Leaving behind a baby, Jessie is forced to grow up fast due to her mother's passing and her father's alcoholism. Her mission was clear, and ten years later it never wavered. The Sacramento setting in the story hit close to home for this reader, being as I grew up there. I found myself playing the story in my head like a movie, which in turn brought the story to life for me. My connection with Jessie was quick, and I fell hard for her story. It seemed like every turn she took, it only lead to disappointment and heartbreak. Which brings me to Colin. Colin is a detective and Jessie's ex-boyfriend. The love never died between them, but Jessie is having a hard time with her trust issues. The possibility of them getting back together gave me hope that Jessie could find happiness in the near future.

The heartless killer was outstandingly played by the author. He truly scared the shit out of me! He did not discriminate when it came to his victims. He would take men, woman, both young and old. But he clearly had an agenda, and as a reader had me both feeling sorry for him, and loathing him. What doesn't break you, makes you...right? That is what happened here, and the thrill of the hunt, the horrific torture of the victims, and the strength of one Jessie Cole is what kept me glued to this book. And when Ben Morrison, a newspaper reporter, entered the picture, well that just fucked me all up! Ben had his own story to tell, so how could you have a story within a story? This character Ben set me on a path I have never experienced before. I mean really, his story entwined with Jessie's but yet his own made for a whole other book! The way the two danced together but separately was flawless. I was cheering for Ben all the way baby! In the end I was still left with some questions. No doubt they will be answered in books to come, and man I can't wait! Her Last Day was a thrill a minute, an emotional journey to which I will be sure to follow.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: LONE WOLF

Patrol Log:  9710062017

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW ON LONE WOLF, (OLENTO RESEARCH #2)

BY +SARAH NOFFKE & NARRATED BY ELIZABETH KLETT

**Audiobook provided by the author for an honest review**

Rated it

The pack is coming together, but one wolf would rather be alone with his demons than united as a team. In the second installment in the Olento Research series, Connor runs from the Lucidite Institute and his pack, fearful of what the wolf will make him do. All of the men describe feeling the impulses, thedesires that are unquenchable, coursing through them. But Connor knows he has a lesser chance of resisting those impulses due to his background. And after what he almost did to Adelaide, he can't risks it happening again.

The Lucidites have one hell of a job on their hands with the wolf pack they have been trying to round up.  Adelaid and Roxy have been working together to gather the entire pack that have escaped the evil doers that created them before they hurt innocent people.  After capturing a few of the crew, Mika the mastermind behind the wolves, has created a "super wolf" to track the escapees down and bring them back.  Connor fled the Lucidites in fear of hurting Adelaid, and all hell breaks loose with Adelaid when her father's book goes missing.  Where is Connor?  Where is Ren's book?  And why aren't we trying to find the guys that created this nightmare?

Mika, (the evil mastermind behind the wolves) is at it again.  He has turned his loyal assistant into a "super wolf" in order to track the escaped wolves down and bring them in.  Adelaid and the gang are searching for Connor, and when they find him he is on the brink of death.  Roxy is being Rox and toying with Zefer's emotions.  Then there is the case of the missing book, that Adelaid feels totally lost without because it is the closest thing she has to her father.  The feelings I see developing between Connor and Adelaid gives me hope for the spunky red head.  She needs someone to show her how to love, how to be a real human being.  With her unique abilities, she was never able to get close to men before, and now she may have met her match.  Will Connor survive long enough for Adelaid to find true love?  Well with the constant danger they are always in, who knows!  Zefer just may make an honest woman out of Roxy...well crazier things have happened, lol.  What I'm mainly interested in is how they are going to shut the guys down that stole the Lucidites research to begin with!  They need to be the priority, not the wolves because as long as they are around, they will just keep creating these un-natural creatures from unwilling people.  I hope we have a break through in the next book in this regard.  Otherwise this was another outstanding read, and great sequel to the first book!

Narrator Review

Elizabeth Klett returns to voice Adelaid and the gang.  She continues to do a fabulous job telling the story as well as draw me into their world.  As long as Elizabeth is around,  I will continue to follow.  5 Fang rating for the narrator!

NEW RELEASE: SLEEP, SAVANNAH, SLEEP

Patrol Log:  9609282017

NEW RELEASE ON SLEEP, SAVANNAH, SLEEP

BY ALISTAIR CROSS

Title: Sleep, Savannah, Sleep
Genres: Paranormal/Mystery
Author: Alistair Cross
Publisher: Glass Apple Press
Release date: September 25th, 2017
Word count: Approx. 86,000
Triggers: Some violence, moderate sexual content (consensual), some language.

The Dead Don’t Always Rest in Peace
Jason Crandall, recently widowed, is left to raise his young daughter and rebellious teenage son on his own - and the old Victorian in Shadow Springs seems like the perfect place for them to start over. But the cracks in Jason’s new world begin to show when he meets Savannah Sturgess, a beautiful socialite who has half the men in town dancing on tangled strings.

When she goes missing, secrets begin to surface, and Jason becomes ensnared in a dangerous web that leads to murder. But who has the answers that will prove his innocence? The jealous husband who’s hell-bent on destroying him? The local sheriff with an incriminating secret? The blind old woman in the house next door who seems to watch him from the windows? Or perhaps the answers lie in the haunting visions and dreams that have recently begun to consume him.

Or maybe, Savannah herself is trying to tell him that things aren’t always as they seem - and that sometimes, the dead don’t rest in peace.

Praise for Alistair Cross:

"Alistair Cross’s THE ANGEL ALEJANDRO is an intriguing tale that pits evil against good and keeps the reader on edge with surprising shifts and changes."

- New York Times Bestseller, Dianna Love
“Put Bram Stoker in a giant cocktail shaker, add a pinch of Laurell K. Hamilton, a shot of John Carpenter, and a healthy jigger of absinthe, and you’ll end up with Alistair Cross’s modern Gothic chiller, “The Crimson Corset” - a deliciously terrifying tale that will sink its teeth into you from page one.”

- Jay Bonansinga, New York Times Bestselling author of THE WALKING DEAD: INVASION and LUCID

“The Angel Alejandro is as lush and ethereal as it is visceral and unholy. A demonic horde seeks to swallow up the citizens of Prominence made vulnerable by their weaknesses. Those who take a stand against the evil are emotionally damaged as well; particularly a sheriff who battles his personal demons in a bottle. The author had me rooting for each of them in spite of, or maybe because of their flaws. With masterful pacing, Cross brings a small mystery to a raging boil that threatens every soul in Prominence. His exquisite prose drew me into the story as if I were living it. Highly recommended.”

-QL Pearce, author of the Scary Stories for Sleep-Overs series, and Spine Chillers: Hair-Raising Tales
