Dreams, Fiction, and Me

Book review on Dreams, Fiction, and Me by +Agostino Scafidi
A Collection of Paranormal Short Stories
**Book provided by the author for an honest review**

Rated it

Blurb:  A collection of short stories based entirely on dreams the author recorded in his journal. Over a period of almost three months he used techniques learned from various sources (Castaneda, Thelema, Occultism) to record his dreams. The author goes into detail about this process in the Introduction. Mixing fiction with the journal entries, intent on entertaining the reader as well as heightening awareness of the role of dreams in our lives, here is Dreams, Fiction and Me. A paranormal fiction suitable for all ages.

Review:  This book contained 27 short stories all based off the author's dreams, fucking genius!!  The genius part was the fact that he filled in the blanks with funny, witty and some scary scenarios to give the dream life as a great short story!  Most people would try to "interpret" the dream and write a thesis or some shit like that but not Agostino.  He makes his dreams interesting for the reader and takes us to a fictional Disneyland of all you can eat shorts that will have you laughing, pondering and just outright thinking wtf?!

I may be easily entertained at times, but who isn't?  However, the use of the word "kerfuffle" had me rolling in laughter!  I don't know why, it was just one of those things that tickled my funny bone and will remain etched in my memory forever!  Just like when I heard the word persnickety for the first time.......still fucking hilarious by the way!   Ok, so that was my most memorable word, here is my most memorable story from the book.  In the story, Lets See How Far This Will Go, Agostino dreams about visiting a friend that owns a whole island!  While he is there he tries to convince this friend into using his land for profit.  In reality, the dream was really about Agostino killing people and then disposing of the bodies by mailing them to this friends' island along with quotes of dead dictators.  The story not only intrigued me because this is some crazy shit I would dream about, but it also got me thinking, uh oh....I should totally write a book based on my crazy dreams!  I will either be deemed a genius, like Agostino, or a weirdo that people fear because I have some doozies, let me tell you!

I have to give a shout out to the story, The Things A Good Washing Can Do For You, because the idea behind it is so brilliant for such an unrealistic concept that how could I not appreciate it?  In the story, Agostino comes across this stray dog that just incorporates himself into his house.  When no one is around to see, the dog washes the dishes!  One minute, there is a sink full of dirty dishes, and the next, they are all clean and put away!  All done when no person was around to do it!  Awesome!  I want a dog like that!

This book was highly entertaining and such a nice change of pace from my usual reads.  If you are looking for a quick read in between a series or just stand alone novels, check this book out.  You will really love it!  The book is not readily available through the usual outlets, only through the author's website, but in many formats, so I will provide the link to his website for you.
